Cowley L A Pte 41629 17th Manchester Regiment Leonard Arthur Cowley (Apprentice compositor) enlisted in May 1916 in the 9th Bn. Royal West Kent Regt., and was afterwards transferred to the 17th Bn. Manchester Regt. He landed in France in October 1916 and saw more than 17 months active service in the field before being taken prisoner on March 22nd, 1918, at the opening of the last German offensive.
