21st Rifle Brigade
John Thomas Norris (Apprentice compositor) enlisted in the Suffolk Regt. in January 1916. He was promoted Lance- Corporal in April 1916 and Corporal in the following May, and for some months he acted as Instructor in Physical Training and Bayonet Fighting. In March 1917 he was transferred to the 21st Bn. The Rifle Brigade (T.F.) and sailed for Egypt; during the voyage his ship was torpedoed in the Aegean Sea. He was afterwards transferred to the 2/154th Indian Infantry Regt., and for 7 months he did duty as Transport Instructor in the Indian Army, all the last 2 years of his service being spent in Egypt and Palestine.
