William Christopher Piggott (Reader) enlisted in the Suffolk Regt. In October 1916 and served for two months at the Regimental Depöt. In December 1916 he was transferred to the Army Pay Corps, in which he served until March 1918, being promoted Lance-Corporal in June 1917 and Corporal in the following October. Transferring to the Royal Garrison Artillery in March 1918, after a period of service spent on coast defence, he joined 114 Siege Battery in France in July 1918 and remained with that unit until his demobilisation in January 1919.
