Charles Smith (Compositor) enlisted in September 1914 in the Cambridgeshire Regt. and was afterwards transferred to the Royal Sussex Regt. He was promoted Corporal in June 1916 and in the following month he went to France. In November 1916 he was wounded, but after a short period in hospital he returned to the fighting line in the following March, and was wounded a second time on July 31st, 1917. In February 1918 he went overseas for the third time, and remained in France until his demobilisation in February 1919.
