Harold Percy Stretch (Apprentice compositor) was mobilised on August 4th, 1914, with the Cambridgeshire Regt. (T.F.), in which he had been serving prior to the war. In January 1915 he had to undergo an operation, which resulted in his being relegated to the 2nd Line Bn. and pronounced unfit for foreign service for a year and a half. In September 1916 he was posted to the 4th Bn. Northumberland Fusiliers in France, where he served until his demobilisation in March 1919. He was wounded in November 1916 during the operations on the Somme.
