CAPTAIN ARTHUR LEIGH-BENNETT, D.S.O., M.C. (c, 1899-1902), was born on November 25th, 1885—son of H. C. Leigh-Bennett Esq., M.P., J.P., D.L. (n, 1864-1871), of Thorpe Place, Chertsey. He came to Winchester from Twyford School, and passing through Sandhurst was gazetted to the Coldstream Guards in 1905. He went to the front with the original Expeditionary Force and was awarded the M.C. for services at the Battle of the Aisne. He was twice wounded, twice mentioned in Despatches and received the D.S.O. " for conspicuous gallantry at Cuinchy on February 1st, 1915 ; leading his men with great ability against the enemy he stopped their advance and eventually captured their position." He was killed near Vermelles on October 8rd, 1915, while serving with the 2nd Battalion. He was a keen polo-player and a member of the Coldstream Guards' team.
