World War One Photos Updates http://ww1photos.com/updates Wed, 01 Dec 2010 10:58:41 +0000 en hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.0.1 The Christmas Truce 1914 http://ww1photos.com/updates/2010/12/01/the-christmas-truce-1914/ http://ww1photos.com/updates/2010/12/01/the-christmas-truce-1914/#comments Wed, 01 Dec 2010 10:58:24 +0000 Administrator http://ww1photos.com/updates/?p=29 With Christmas approaching I have added a short video of The Christmas Truce on The Western Front in 1914 from the film Oh! What A Lovely War to the main home page at World War One Photos. The bad weather across Britain at the moment certainly brings home how terrible the conditions must have been in the trenches for the soldiers. The story of this truce is well known as both sides desire for peace and reconciliation spread along the frontline. In some places the truce lasted for days.
In the photos and obituaries section I have been adding photos from the Roll Of Honour “Our Heroes. Mons To The Somme Aug 1914-July 1916” These booklets were published as supplements to Irish Life Magazine in 1916 and have hundreds of photos of Irish officers and officers serving in Irish regiments. I have also been adding short records of service for members of staff of London County Council 1914-1919. Although fairly brief they hold some invaluable information such as length of service, regiments served in, time overseas and theatres of war. They may have added information such as Prisoner of War details. I will be continuing adding these into next year as there are so many and will let everyone know when I have completed them and which Rolls of Honour I will be adding next.
If you would like to view the Christmas Truce video you can follow the link to World War One Photos and you will find it near the bottom of the main page. I hope this short video gives a slight feel of what it was like.

Best Wishes
Jane
