Chapman H CSM 325144 1st Cambridgeshire Regiment 
Herbert Chapman (Compositor), who was serving in the Territorial Force at the outbreak of war, was mobilised with the Cambridgeshire Regt., and went to France with the 1/1st Bn. in February 1915. A private in 1914, he quickly earned promotion, and by 1917 he had gained the rank of Company Sergeant-Major. At the opening of the Third Battle of Ypres on July 31st, 1917, he was severely wounded at St Julien, NE. of Ypres; he died on September 4th, and was buried on the following day at the Military Cemetery, Etaples. His regimental chaplain writes of him: "If I may say so, very humbly, he was such a splendid man, and in his whole bearing of himself he looked what he was good and brave.
