Henry John Goddard (Warehouse), being already in the Territorial Force, was mobilised with the Cambridgeshire Regt. at the outbreak of war. He went to France with the 1/1st Bn. in February 1915, and in the following May he was wounded. He rejoined his battalion in France in May 1916 and was wounded a second time in October 1916, returning to England in consequence. In May 1917 he was promoted Lance-Corporal, in June Corporal, and in August 1917 Sergeant. In the following month he transferred to the King's African Rifles and went to Africa, where he remained until August 1919.
