Richard Charles Marshall (Traveller, Fetter Lane) attested in March 1916, at the age of 37, and was called up in the following September. He joined the Sussex Yeomanry, which was later dismounted and formed into the 16th Bn. Royal Sussex Regt., and he served as a company stretcher-bearer. He went to Egypt in January 1917 and he served throughout Lord Allenby's campaign in Palestine, taking part in the second attack on Gaza and the taking of Beersheba, Jerusalem, and Nablus. In April 1918 his unit was transferred to France, where he took part in the final advance and remained until his demobilisation in January 1919.
