Saunders H C L/Cpl MM 325141 1st Cambridgeshire Regiment
Harold Charles Saunders (Apprentice compositor) was mobilised on the outbreak of war with the Cambridgeshire Regt. (T.F.), in which he had already had years service. In February 1915, being then a Lance-Corporal in the signal section, he went with the 1/1st Bn. to France, where he saw more than 3 years continuous service in the field. He was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry at Tower Hamlets on September 26th, 1917, during the Third Battle of Y pres. In the following spring he was serving with the 39th Division during the German offensive and was taken prisoner at P�ronne on March 26th, 1918. He was repatriated in the following December.
