DEAN, J. E., Bombardier, R.F.A. He was mobilised in August 1914, and was immediately sent to France. He was in action during the Retreat from Mons and at Ypres, Neuve Chapelle, Loos, Vimy Ridge, the Somme, Arras and Cambrai. He also served in the Retreat and Advance of 1918. He was demobilised in February 1919, after returning home, and holds the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

DEAN, M. (Mrs.), Special War Worker. Volunteering for work of National importance, this lady took the place of a man at East Greenwich Gas Works, thus releasing him for military service, and was employed there for two years. Engaged on duties of an arduous nature, she discharged them in a thoroughly competent and efficient manner throughout and gave her employers every satisfaction.

DEAN, P. T., Pte., 14th Northumberland Fusiliers. Joining in 1916, be was drafted to France later in the same year. He took part in the fighting at Arras, Bullecourt and Ypres, where he was wounded. On his recovery, after hospital treatment at home, he returned to France and served on the Somme front until the Armistice. He was demobilised in February 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
14A, Surrey Rd., Peckham Rye, S.E.15.

DEAN, W. H., A.B., Royal Navy. He volunteered in August 1914, and was posted to H.M.S. "Cressy." After much valuable service in the North Sea he unfortunately lost his life when his vessel was sunk in action on September 22nd, 1914. He was entitled to the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

DEAN, W. T., Driver, R.F.A. He volunteered in May 1915, and after his training did good work at various home stations until January 1917, when he embarked for France. There he saw much service, notably at Arras, Bullecourt, Ypres, Passchendaele, the Somme, Amiens and Cambrai. He returned home and was demobilised in June 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
38, Bawtree Road, New Cross, S.E.14.

DEANE, G. F., Private, Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment) and Labour Corps. He joined in March 1917, and was drafted to France in the same year. He did valuable work with his unit in the Ypres salient and on the Somme, and was present in the Retreat and Advance of 1918. He was demobilised in September 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory medals.
57, Flaxman Road, Camberwell, S.E.5.

DEAR, A. W., Corporal, 3rd K.R.R.C. He volunteered in August 1914, and after his training was engaged at various stations on important duties with his unit. He rendered valuable services at Aldershot, Sheerness and other stations, but was not successful in obtaining his transfer overseas on account of his physical unfitness. He was discharged in May 1916, owing to his disabilities, and was afterwards employed on work of National importance in Bermondsey.

DEARING, A., Private, 1st Royal Sussex Regiment. He was serving in India at the outbreak of war, and from 1914 to 1916 was engaged against hostile tribes at Shabkadar and other parts of the North-West Frontier. In March 1917 he was transferred to the 14th Indian Divisional Signal Company and sent to Mesopotamia, where he did valuable service at Baghdad, Table Mountain and in numerous other engagements. He was demobilised in June 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
7, South Grove, Peckham, S.E.15.

DEARING, A., Private, 2nd Royal Sussex Regt. He enlisted in 1910 to, and in 1915 was drafted to the Western Front, where he was in action in the Battles of Loos, Albert, Vimy Ridge, the Somme, Messines and Cambrai. He also took part in many operations of importance in the Retreat and Advance of 1918. He was demobilised in 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
7, South Grove, Peckham, S.E.15.

DEARMAN, W. C., Private, East Surrey Regiment, and Royal Defence Corps. He volunteered in November 1915 in the 12th East Surrey Regiment, and in May 1916 was sent to France. He was wounded on the Somme, but on his recovery he returned to the fighting line and was engaged at Vimy Ridge and Ypres. Being again wounded he returned home in 1917, and subsequently did excellent service until he was discharged in February 1919, holding the General Service and Victory Medals.

DEAVES, A. C., Private, 20th London Regiment. He volunteered in 1915, and in the same year was drafted to France, where he took part in numerous engagements on the Ypres, Somme and Arras fronts. He was wounded at Cambrai in March 1918, and after a period in hospital, was discharged owing to his injuries in June 1918. He holds the 1914-15 Star. and the General Service and Victory Medals.
14, Renbold Place, Greenwich, S.E.10.

DEAVES, F., Stoker, Petty Officer, R.N., H.M.S. "Inflexible." He joined in June 1910, and after the outbreak of war was sent to the South Atlantic and took part in the Battle of the Falkland Islands. He afterwards did excellent service at the Dardanelles, where he was again in action. His vessel was mined five times. He was still serving in 1921, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
81, Friendly Street, Deptford, S.E.8.

DEAVIN, J. W., Rifleman, Rifle Brigade. He joined in June 1916, and later was sent to France, where he was in action at Cambrai and in the Retreat of 1918, in which he was wounded and taken prisoner. After internment in Germany for many months, he was repatriated, and demobilised in August 1919, holding the General Service and Victory Medals.
41, Cranham Road, Rotherhithe, S.E.16.

DEBANK, H. W., Private, 11th Royal Scots Fus. He joined in October 1916, and was retained at home on important duties up to February 1918, when he proceeded to France. In this theatre of war he participated in various actions during the Retreat and final Advance, and was unfortunately killed during heavy fighting at Valenciennes on September 8th, 1918. He was buried in the war cemetery there and was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals.

DEBNAM, G. W., Stoker, 1st Class, R.N. he joined in December 1917, and was engaged in the North Sea and other waters on mine-sweeping and other important duties until May 1919. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals, and was demobilised in May 1919 after rendering much valuable service.

DEBNAM, W. J., Private, 23rd Cheshire Regiment. joining in June 1917, he was sent to France in February of the following year and took part in numerous engagements, including those at Ypres, Tournai and Cambrai until hostilities ceased. He was demobilised in February 1920, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
36, New Church Street, Rotherhithe, S.E.16.

DEDMAN, H. G., Rifleman, 8th City of London (P.O. Rifles). Volunteering in November 1915, he crossed in the following year to France and was in action at Vimy Ridge, the Somme and Arras. Later, invalided home on account of ill health, he returned, on recovery, to the Western Front and fought at Ypres and Cambrai and in the Retreat and Advance of 1918. He was demobilised in February 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
3, Andrew Villas, Underhill Road, East Dulwich, S.E.22.

DEEKS, H., Private, Essex Regiment. He volunteered in January 1915, and later in the same year was drafted to France, where he took part in the Battles of Festubert and Ypres. After being gassed in August he was invalided home, but on his recovery, afterwards proceeded to India, where he was engaged on important garrison duties. He was demobilised in December 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
32, Windmill Lane, Deptford, S.E.8.

DEEKS, W. J. D., Gunner, R.G.A. Volunteering in 1915, he was sent to France in the following year. He took an active part in numerous engagements, including those at Vermelles, Beaumont-Hamel, Arras, Ypres, Passchendaele, Cambrai, the Somme, and Amiens until hostilities ended. He was demobilised in 1919 after his return home and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
53, Waghorn Street, Peckham, S.E.15.

DEFEW, C. R., Leading Seaman, R.N. He joined in 1903, and was stationed at Dover at the outbreak of war. He took part in the Battles of Heligoland Bight, the Dogger Bank and Jutland, and in the bombardment of the Belgian Coast and Ostend. He was afterwards transferred to H.M.S. "Adamant" and proceeded to the Mediterranean, where he was engaged In attending submarines and on patrol and other important duties. He also did much valuable service in the Q Mystery Ships. He was demobilised in February 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
