He volunteered in December 1915, and after completing his training was engaged with his unit on important duties in England until March 1918, when he was drafted to the Western Front. He was severely wounded in action and lost the use of his left arm. He was invalided home, and after a period in hospital, was discharged as medically unfit for further service in June 1919. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals. 23, Edith Rd., Peckham, S.E.15. DE FRATES, T. C., Private, Middlesex Regiment. He joined in January 1918, and after his training as a Lewis gunner, was engaged at various stations on important duties with his unit. He rendered valuable services at Aldershot, Chatham and Norwich, but was not successful in obtaining his transfer overseas before the cessation of hostilities. He was demobilised in January 1919. 21, Atkinson Street, New Cross, S.E.14. DELAMAIN, S. J., A.B., Royal Navy. He joined in July 1917, and served in the North Sea with the Grand Fleet in H.M.S. "Australia" T.B.19, and various other vessels. He was later transferred to H.M.S. "Pekin" and was employed on escort and other important work until the Armistice. He was demobilised in October 1919, but has since rejoined, and was still serving in 1920. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals. 35, Janeway Street, Rotherhithe, S.E.16. DELIEU, T., Corporal, R.F.A. He volunteered in June 1915, and in March of the following year crossed to France and took part in the heavy fighting at Armentieres, the Somme and Arras, and was wounded and gassed at Ypres in November 1917. He was invalided home, but on recovery returned to France and fought in the Allied Advance of 1918. Demobilised in May 1919, he holds the General Service and Victory Medals. 76, Coldbath Street, Lewisham, S.E.13. DELL, P. W., A.B., Royal Navy, H.M.S. "Pincher." Joining in October 1905, he served at the outbreak of war in the Mediterranean and was in action in the Adriatic with the Austrian Fleet. He also took part in the capture of several German merchant vessels, the chase of the "Goeben" and "Breslau" and later in the Landing of the troops at Suvla Bay and the Evacuation of the Gallipoli Peninsula. He was afterwards engaged on mine-sweeping duties in the Gulf of Smyrna and subsequently saw service off the Belgian Coast. During his service he was gassed and also sustained severe concussion. He was demobilised in January 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 11, Georgette Place, Greenwich, S.E.10. DELLBRIDGE, E. J., Private, R.A.S.C. Volunteering in October 1915, he embarked for France in the same year, and whilst there served with the Labour Corps, at Rouen and elsewhere. In March 1916 he was sent home and later was discharged as medically unfit for further service. Afterwards he was engaged at Woolwich Arsenal on important duties in the high explosives department. Later, however, he unfortunately died from the effects of his service, and was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals. 5, Regent Street, Lewisham, S.E.13. DELVES, E., Private, R.A.M.C., and R.A.S.C. He volunteered in November 1914, and in August of the following year was sent to France, where he was engaged at Ypres. In February 1916 he proceeded to Salonika and did valuable work on the Doiran and Struma fronts, and also in the Advance on the Vardar. He contracted malaria, and subsequently was kept on home service. He was demobilised in February 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 68, Greenhundred Road, Peckham, S.E.15. DEMERY, E. (Miss), Worker, Q.M.A.A.C. She joined in April 1916, and served at Winchester, Reading, and Warwick, as a waitress in the Officers' Mess. She carried out her duties in a most commendable manner, and rendered valuable services until demobilised in October 1919. 137, Kirkwood Road, Peckham, S.E.15. DENAHY, J. F., Private, R.M.L.I. He was serving at the outbreak of war, and was sent to Scotland, where he was posted to H.M.S. "Cyclops," which was engaged on patrol and other duties in the North Sea. He afterwards did excellent work in H.M.S. "Yarmouth" and "Coventry." He was discharged in November 1919, owing to heart trouble, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 35, Woodpecker Road, New Cross, S.E.14. DENMAN, W. A., Corporal, R.A.S.C. He was mobilised in August 1914, and was immediately sent to France, where he served in the Retreat from Mons and at the Battle of Neuve Chapelle. In 1916 he was invalided home with heart trouble, and was discharged in September 1918, owing to his disability. He unfortunately died on August 4th, 1919, and was entitled to the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. "His memory is cherished with pride." 24, Alverton Street, Deptford, S.E.8. DENMARK, W. J., Bombardier, R.F.A. He volunteered in September 1914, and in the following year was drafted to France, where he was in action at Ypres, Vimy Ridge, St. Eloi, Albert, the Somme, Arras, Bullecourt, Beaumont-Hamel, Passchendaele and numerous other engagements. He also took part in the Retreat and Advance of 1918, and during his service was gassed. He was demobilised in March 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 18, Burchell Road, Peckham, S.E.15. DENNANT, E. R., Driver, R.F.A. He volunteered in 1915, and in the following year was drafted to France. He took part in the fighting on the Somme, at Arras, Ypres, Cambrai, Peronne and Albert, and other important engagements until the Armistice. He was demobilised in 1919, after his return home, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals. 4, Prior Street, Greenwich, S.E.10. DENNARD, D. A., Air Mechanic, R.A.F. (late R.F.C.) He joined in August 1916, and underwent a course of training, after which he was engaged in testing and repairing engines at various stations. He was not successful in obtaining a transfer overseas prior to the end of war, but rendered very valuable services until demobilised in 1919. 13, Queen Street, Greenwich, S.E.10. DENNESS, F., Sapper, R.E. He volunteered in January 1915, and in the following August was drafted to Gallipoli. He took part in the Landing at Suvla Bay, and in the severe fighting until the Evacuation of the Peninsula, and afterwards proceeded to Egypt, where he served until June 1916. After being transferred to the Western Front he was present at the Battles of the Somme, Arras, Messines, Passchendaele and in the Retreat and Advance of 1918. He was demobilised in April of the following year, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 310, Commercial Road, Peckham, S.E.15. DENNEY, E. G., Private, 7th Sherwood Foresters. Joining in April 1916, he embarked in February of the following year for France, and whilst there took part in much fighting in many sectors. He was in action at Ypres, Cambrai, and in the Retreat and Allied Advance of 1918. For a time he was in hospital through ill-health, but on his recovery he rejoined his unit and did good work until his return home for demobilisation in February 1919. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals. 163, Canterbury Road, Camberwell, S.E.15. DENNIS, T., Sergt., M.G.C. Mobilised when war was declared, he quickly proceeded to France, and fought in the Retreat from Mons and the Battles of the Marne, the Aisne and Armentieres, where he was wounded. On his recovery he proceeded to Mesopotamia, and took part in the engagements at Kut, Sanna-i-Yat, Baghdad, Tekrit and the occupation of Mosul. After returning home in 1919 he was demobilised, holding the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 53, Surrey Road, Peckham, S.E.15. DENNIS, T. H., Pioneer, R.E. He volunteered in September 1914, and a year later landed in France. After a short period of service on the Western Front he was drafted to Salonika in November 1915, and for over three years did good work in the Balkans. He was engaged on important duties on various fronts, and was present at several engagements on the Vardar. Returning to England for demobilisation in March 1919, he holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 74, Whateley Road, East Dulwich, S.E.22. DENNIS, W. P., Sergt., R.F.A. Volunteering in January 1915, he sailed for France in May of the following year, and during his service there took part in much of the heavy fighting. He was in action on the Somme, the Ancre, at Messines, Passchendaele and Ypres, where he was wounded. In April 1918 he was sent home and served as Gunnery Instructor at Athlone until demobilised in April 1919. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals. 4, Sydney House, Latona Road, Peckham, S.E.15. DENNY, A., L/Corporal, 1st Royal Berkshire Regt. Already in the Army when war broke out he was shortly afterwards drafted to France, and during the Retreat from Mons was wounded. On his recovery he returned to the fighting line, and was in action at Ypres, Neuve Chapelle, St. Eloi, Hill 60, Ypres II, Festubert and Loos, where he was again severely wounded. He was invalided home and subsequently discharged as medically unfit in May 1916. He holds the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 31, Blockhouse Street, Peckham, S.E.15.
