He was invalided home, and after a period in hospital, was discharged, owing to his injuries, in April 1918. Volunteering in September 1914, he proceeded to France in the following July, and fought in many important engagements. He also did excellent work whilst in charge of a bombing party during the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel, where on November 18th, 1916, he was unhappily killed in action. He volunteered in February 1916, and after completing his training served at home for a time and proceeded to the Western Front in June of the succeeding year. After taking part in much heavy fighting, he received a severe wound at Bullecourt on May 14th, 1917, from the effects of which he unfortunately died at No. 15 Casualty Clearing Station, two days later. After the Armistice, he was stationed in Germany with the Army of Occupation. Demobilised in October 1919, he holds the General Service and Victory Medals. 14, Shawbury Road, East Dulwich, S.E.22. ELDRIDGE, J., Gunner, R.F.A. He joined in November 1916, and crossing to France in the following February, fought in the Battles of Arras, Ypres, Passchendaele, Cambrai, and the Somme. After the Retreat and Allied Advance in which he also served, he was transferred to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, and proceeded with the Army of Occupation to Germany. Volunteering in March 1915, he crossed to France in the following December, and fought in various sectors of that Front. He was also for a time engaged at Etaples, where he was badly wounded during an air raid in June 1918. On recovery he rejoined his unit in the Field, and was in action throughout the Allied Advance. He was afterwards engaged in England on special duties until demobilised in August 1920. He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 1-3, Derrick Street, Rotherhithe, S.E.16. ELDRIDGE, S., Rflmn., 6th London Regt. (Rifles). He volunteered in August 1914, and after completing his training was engaged on important duties with his Battalion at various depots. He rendered valuable services, but was unable to obtain his transfer overseas owing to medical unfitness for active service, and was discharged in consequence in February 1916. 27, Shawbury Road, East Dulwich, S.E.22. An ex-soldier, he volunteered in December 1914, and was engaged on coastal defence duties until 1916, when in consequence of ill-health he was discharged. Later, however, he re-joined and was drafted to France, where he was employed on bridge building and railway construction in the forward areas. He later did valuable work with the Graves Registration Commission. He was discharged as medically unfit in February 1920, and holds in addition to the Queen's and King's South African Medals, the General Service and Victory Medals. 36, Azof Street, Greenwich, S.E.10. ELIAS, W. J., Driver, R.A.S.C. He joined in January 1916, but was unable for a time to obtain his transfer to a theatre of war on account of defective eyesight. In July 1917, however, he was drafted to France and served at Ypres, and in many engagements in the Retreat and Advance of 1918. After the Armistice he marched into Germany with the Army of Occupation, and was stationed at Wiesbaden, where in 1920 he was still serving. Joining in January 1917, he proceeded to France a month later, and was engaged in the transport of food and ammunition on barges. He was also employed in the canteens, and after the Armistice served at Bethune on salvage work. He was demobilised on his return to England in November 1919. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals. 171, Gloucester Road, Peckham, S.E.15. ELKINS, W., Gunner, R.G.A. He volunteered in October 1914, and embarked for Egypt in the following June. Later he fought under General Allenby in the Advance through Palestine, taking part in many notable engagements, including the Capture of Jerusalem. He was demobilised on his return to England in June 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 39, Deptford Green, S.E.8. ELLARY, W. E., Rifleman, 10th Rifle Brigade. Joining in June 1916, he embarked for France early in the following year, and fought in operations at Arras, Ypres, and Passchendaele, where he was wounded in January 1918. Evacuated to England he underwent hospital treatment, and returning to the Western Front on recovery, served at Kernmel and Messines in the Allied Advance of 1918. He was demobilised in September of the succeeding year, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals. 16, Gonson Place, Deptford, S.E.8. ELLIOTT, A., Driver, R.F.A. A serving soldier, he took part in the Retreat from Mons, and in the Battles of Ypres, La Bassee, the Somme, the Ancre, and Cambrai. He served on the Western Front throughout the period of hostilities. In 1919 he was invalided home in consequence of ill-health. After treatment, he was demobilised in March of that year, and holds the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 103, Clarence Street, Rotherhithe, S.E.16. ELLIOTT, C., Driver, R.F.A. Volunteering at the outbreak of war, he fought in the Battles of Loos, Vimy Ridge, the Somme, St. Eloi, Amiens, Armentieres, and Albert. Whilst in the trenches, he contracted an illness which necessitated his return to England, and after recovery served on important duties at various stations until demobilised in December 1918. He volunteered at the commencement of hostilities and was shortly afterwards posted to H.M.S. "Victorious," which vessel was engaged on cruising duties round the East Coast. In 1917 he returned to shore, and until demobilised in September 1919, held an important post at Ipswich as Admiralty overseer. He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 20, Luton Place, Greenwich. S.E.10. ELLIOTT, E., Pte., 6th South Lancashire Regt. Joining in November 1916, he embarked for Mesopotamia in the following March, and took part in several important engagements, including that at Um-el-Hannah.
