FLOWERS, H. H., Cpl., Q.O. Oxfordshire Hussars. He volunteered in 1914, and in the following year embarked for France, where during his service he fought in many notable battles. He was in action at Ypres, Festubert, and Loos, but at Arras was unfortunately gassed, being subsequently discharged as medically unfit in 1918. He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

FLOYD, A. (Mrs.), Special War Worker. From 1916 until 1918 this lady was engaged on work of National importance at Woolwich Arsenal. She served as an examiner of fuses and on various other responsible duties, and rendered services of a most valuable nature.

FLOYD, E. W., Sergt., Royal Sussex Regiment. He enlisted in February 1911, and when war broke out was serving in India. He remained in that country throughout the course of hostilities, and took part in many minor engagements on the North West Frontier. He returned to England in October 1919, and in November of that year was demobilised holding the General Service and Victory, the India General Service Medal (with clasp, Afghanistan, N.W. Frontier, 1919).

FLOYD, F., Special War Worker. Throughout the period of war he served at the Royal Victoria Yard, Grove Street, Deptford, on important work in connection with the transport of supplies for the Navy. He rendered very valuable services, and carried out his arduous duties in a highly commendable manner.

FLYNN, H. C. Private, 20th London Regiment. He joined in July 1914, and in the following year embarked for Egypt. During his service in the East he saw fighting at Gaza, Rafa, and in many other engagements, during the Palestine campaign and was present at the entry into Jerusalem. During his service he was wounded and also suffered from malaria. Returning home in 1918, he was demobilised, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

FLYNN, J., Sergt., 17th Middlesex Regiment. He volunteered in March 1915, and in November of the same year crossed to France. Whilst in this theatre of war he took part in many important engagements, including those at Givenchy, Vimy Ridge, the Somme, Beaumont-Hamel and Arras, and was wounded and invalided home. On recovery he was retained for duties in England until demobilised in January 1919. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
31, Conley Street, Greenwich, S.E.10.

FLYNN, W., Private, Lancashire Fusiliers. He joined in May 1917, and in the same month embarked for France. There he took part in the operations in many sectors of the Front, and fought at Ypres, Arras and Cambrai, and in the Retreat and Advance of 1918, during which time he was twice gassed. Returning home he was demobilised in December 1918, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

FOLEY, E., Rifleman, 17th London Regiment. He joined in February 1917, and three months later was drafted to the Western Front. There he took part in several engagements, including those at Vimy Ridge and Bullecourt, where he was badly wounded in the head, and was in consequence invalided home. He was eventually discharged in 1918, as medically unfit for further service, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

FOLEY, E. W. (Miss), Special War Worker. She volunteered for work of National importance, and from November 1916 until November 1918, was employed by Messrs. Vickers, Ltd. During this period she was engaged on important duties in connection with the manufacture of ribs for aeroplane wings, and carried out her work in a thoroughly competent and capable manner, and to the entire satisfaction of her employers.

FOLEY, J., Air Mechanic, R.A.F. He joined in August 1916, and served with his Squadron at Eastchurch aerodrome, where he was engaged on special duties. He did good work, but was unsuccessful in securing his transfer overseas, before the end of the war. He was however, transferred to the Royal Navy and proceeded to Russia in H.M.S. "Tintagel" in 1919, and after a year's foreign service returned to England. He was still serving in 1920, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

FOLEY, J., Drummer, 12th East Surrey Regiment. Volunteering in June 1915, he proceeded overseas in May of the following year, and during his service on the Western Front, was in action in many notable battles, including those at Hill 60, Ypres, Ploegsteert Wood, and the Somme, where he was severely wounded. Invalided home, he was discharged after receiving hospital treatment as medically unfit in 1917, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

FOLEY, J. R., Stoker, R.N. He joined the Royal Navy in 1912, and was serving in H.M.S. "Donegal," when war broke out. His ship was engaged in important patrol and convoy duties in the North Sea, and took part in the Battle of Jutland. She was later stationed in West African waters, and after a year of patrol and convoy work there was employed in escorting foodships between America and England. He was demobilised in March 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Vic-tory Medals.

FOLEY, M. R. ( Jun.), Pte., 2/23rd London Regt. Joining in July 1916, he sailed for Salonika three months later and served in engagements on the Doiran and Struma fronts. In 1917, he was drafted to Egypt, and saw heavy fighting with his unit at Gaza and other places during the British Advance through Palestine. Sent to France in February 1918, he fought in the German Offensive, and wounded near Messines in June 1918, was evacuated to England for hospital treatment, after which he was demobilised in June 1919. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

FOLEY, M. R., Private, 88th Connaught Rangers. He previously served for twelve years with the Colours in the course of which he took part in the Zulu War of 1881, and in various expeditions in India, including those at Hazara, 1888, and Sikkim in 1890. He volunteered in 1914, at the outbreak of hostilities, but owing to medical unfitness due to his age, was not accepted. He holds the South African 1878-80 Medal and the India General Service Medal, with clasps Hazara 1888 and Sikkim 1890.

FOLEY, W. H., Pte., Queen's (R. West Surrey Regt.) A Regular, having enlisted in 1913, he proceeded to France in August 1914, and fought in the Retreat from Mons, and the Battles of the Marne, the Aisne, Ypres, Neuve Chapelle and Hill 60. He died gloriously on the Field of Battle at Corby, on July 22nd, 1916, and was entitled to the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

FOLKARD, H. M. R., Sergt., 22nd London Regiment (Queen's). Mobilised at the commencement of hostilities, he embarked in March of the following year for France, and was wounded at Givenchy. Invalided home, he served as an Instructor until October 1915, when he returned to the Western Front, and saw further fighting. In March 1916 he was discharged as time-expired, but a month later rejoined and proceeded to Salonika, and thence to Egypt, where he was unhappily killed in action at Gaza on November 7th, 1917. He was entitled to the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

FOLLOWS, F. H., Gunner, R.F.A. He volunteered in May 1915, and after a period of training proceeded to France in January of the following year. He fought in the Battles of Loos, the Somme, Vimy Ridge and Lens, and was severely wounded in the third engagement at Ypres and invalided home. After receiving medical treatment in hospital he was demobilised in February 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

FOLLOWS, J. F., Rflmn., Rifle Bde. and Pte., M.G.C. He enlisted in September 1913, and when war broke out quickly proceeded to France. There he took part in the Battles of Hill 60, Festubert, and Ypres,where he was wounded. After his recovery he returned to the fighting line and served with the M.G.C., but died from gas poisoning on September 20th, 1917. He was entitled to the 1914 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

FOOKES, A. W. (M.M.) Sergt., R.G.A. He volunteered in November 1915, and in the following year crossed to France, where he served with distinction. He took part in the heavy fighting at the Somme, Arras, Ypres, Cambrai and in the Retreat and Advance of 1918. He was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry in the Field, and also holds the General Service and Victory Medals, and in February 1919 was demobilised.
