BARNABY, F. E., Corporal, 16th London Regt. Joining in January 1917, he embarked for France a year later, and fought with the 56th Division during the Retreat and Advance of 1918, during which he was twice wounded and gassed. He fought in the concluding operations of the war, and entered Mons at dawn on November 11th. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals, and was demobilised in October 1919.

BARNARD, A. H., Sergt., Q.O. (R. West Kent Regt.) He volunteered in June 1915, and at the conclusion of his training was engaged on important guard and clerical duties at various stations. Owing to ill-health, he was unable to secure his transfer to a theatre of war, but nevertheless rendered valuable services until demobilised in 1917.

BARNARD, C., Driver, R.F.A. He volunteered in November 1915, and in March of the following year was drafted to France. He took part in the severe fighting at the Somme, Arras, and in other engagements. He fell fighting at Ypres on April 4th, 1918, and was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNARD, E., Private, 2nd East Surrey Regt. Volunteering in August 1914, he was drafted to France in December of the same year. He was in action at Ypres, La Bassee, Loos and Festubert, and was afterwards transferred to Salonika, where he was engaged on the Struma and Doiran fronts. He also served in Egypt, and again at Salonika. He was demobilised in March 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNARD, E. J., Driver, R.F.A. He was mobilised in August 1914, and immediately sent to France. He took part in the severe fighting during the Retreat from Mons, and at Ypres, Neuve Chapelle, Hill 60, Festubert, Loos, and the Somme. He was then sent to Italy, where he was engaged in the operations on the Piave, and in the last Offensive. He was demobilised in February 1919, and holds the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNARD, E. R., Private, Yorkshire Regiment. He volunteered in August 1914, and in the following year proceeded to the Dardanelles and was twice wounded in action. He was afterwards sent to France and took part in the fighting at Loos, the Somme, Ypres, Cambrai, and other operations, and was again wounded. He was invalided home and discharged owing to his injuries in February 1918. He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNELL, H. C., Private, Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment). He volunteered in September 1914, and after a period of training was engaged on important duties at various stations. He was unsuccessful in obtaining a transfer overseas owing to being medically unfit for duty abroad, but nevertheless, rendered valuable services until February 1916, when he was discharged.
67, Miall Road, Lower Sydenham, S.E.26.

BARNES, A. E., Private, Royal Naval Division. He volunteered in August 1915, and was sent to the Western Front in the following year. He took part in numerous engagements, including those on the Somme and at Arras. He was unfortunately killed in action on March 24th, 1918, during the Retreat of that year. and was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNES, A. H. J., Stoker, R.N., H.M.S. "Iron Duke." He joined the R.M.L.I. in 1918, and during the rest of the war took part in various Naval engagements, including those at Heligoland Bight and Zeebrugge. In 1919 he was transferred to the Royal Navy as a stoker. In 1920 he was serving at Constantinople and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNES, A. W., Private, Royal Fusiliers. He volunteered in August 1914, and after his training served at various stations on important duties with his unit. He rendered valuable services, but was not successful in obtaining his transfer overseas owing to his medical unfitness for active service. He was discharged in December 1915, owing to his disabilities.

BARNES, C. E., L/Cpl., Oxfordshire and Bucks. L.I. Raving volunteered in August 1915, he was sent to Mesopotamia in the following year. He took part in many important engagements and was wounded during the attempt to relieve Kut. He was demobilised in October 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNES, E., Stoker 1st Class, R.N. He joined the Navy in October 1911, and served during the war on board H.M.S. "Weymouth" off the coast of German East Africa, and also in the operations in the Suez Canal zone. Later, transferred to H.M.S. "Raider" he was engaged on escort, convoy and mine-laying duties in the North Sea and other waters. Demobilised in October 1919, he holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
2, Weetman Street, Greenwich, S.E.10.

BARNES, E. G. (M.M.), Corporal, R.E. He volunteered in February 1915, and in October of that year was sent to the Western Front, where he was engaged on important constructional work in various sectors. Present at many engagements in this theatre of war, he was gassed near Cambrai, and was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous bravery in the Field at Armentieres in July 1917. He holds also the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals, and in March 1919 was demobilised.
38, Elderton Road, Sydenham, S.E.26.

BARNES, E. J., Rifleman, 9th Rifle Brigade. Joining in June 1916, he proceeded to France three months later and fought in engagements on the Somme, and at Arras. He gave his life for the freedom of England at Ypres on August 28th, 1917, and was entitled to the General Service and Victory' Medals.
"A valiant Soldier, with undaunted heart, he breasted life's last hill."
4, Silvester Road, East Dulwich, S.E.22.

BARNES, E. J. Rifleman, 14th Rifle Brigade. Volunteering in September 1914, he was drafted to France in April of the following year. He was in action at Ypres, Loos and the Somme, and was wounded and invalided home. He afterwards returned to France, but having contracted fever was again sent home. He unfortunately died in hospital at Leicester in May 1917. He was entitled to the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNES, F., Private, 22nd London Regt. (Queen's). He was mobilised in August 1914, and was shortly afterwards sent to France, where he took part in the fighting at Mons and Neuve Chapelle. He was unfortunately killed in action at the Battle of Loos on September 25th, 1915. and was entitled to the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNES, G., Private, R.A.S.C. (M.T.) After joining in November 1916, he was sent to France in January of the following year. He was engaged in the Ypres and other sectors on the transport of ammunition and supplies and did excellent work. He remained in this theatre of war until he was demobilised in November 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNES, G. A., Gunner, R.F.A. He volunteered in May 1915, and in December of the same year was drafted to France, where he took part in the fighting on the Somme and at Arras, Vimy Ridge, Ypres, Cambrai, Armentieres, Amiens, St. Quentin, and in numerous other engagements. He was demobilised in February 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
2, Weetman Street, Greenwich, S.E.10.

BARNES, H. (Mrs.), Special War Worker. This lady was engaged from March 1916 until August 1918, at the Royal Arsenal, Woolwich. She was employed in shell filling and the inspection of fuses and detonators. Her duties, which were of a very responsible nature were carried out in a thoroughly efficient manner throughout.

BARNES, H., Private, R.A.S.C. (H.T.) Volunteering in September 1914, he was sent to Egypt in December of the following year and did good service at Port Said and Ismailia. In July 1916, he was transferred to France and was engaged on important duties with the Field Ambulance in the Somme, Albert and Vimy Ridge sectors. He was afterwards invalided home, and after a period in hospital was discharged on account of his disability in February 1918. He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
2, Knoyle Street, New Cross, S.E.14.

BARNES, J., Driver, R.F.A. Volunteering in May 1915, he proceeded to France later in the same year and saw much service. He was in action at Loos, Vimy Ridge, the Somme, Beaumont-Hamel, Messines, Arras, Albert, Passchendaele, Armentieres, Amiens, and many other engagements ia the Retreat and Advance of 1918. Demobilised after his return to England in January of the following year he holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
