BARNES, J., Private, 547th Labour Corps. He joined in March 1917, and was sent to France in the same month. He was engaged on important camouflage, trenching and road-making duties at Arras, Lens, Vimy Ridge, the Marne and Bethune, and remained in this theatre of war until February 1919. He then returned home and was demobilised, holding the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNES, J., L/Corporal, East Surrey Regiment. He volunteered in September 1914, and in the following year was sent to France. While serving in the Somme sector he was badly wounded, and after treatment at the Manchester Military Hospital was discharged, owing to his injuries in February 1916. He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNES, N., Private, 7th London Regiment. He joined in November 1916, and in January 1917, after finishing his training was sent to France. He was in action at Arras, Bullecourt, Ypres and Cambrai, and also throughout the Retreat and Advance of 1918. He was demobilised it February 1919, after his return home, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
71, Elmira Street, Loampit Vale, S.E.13.

BARNES, S., Gunner, R.F.A. He volunteered in October 1914, and in November of the following year was sent to the Western Front. He was afterwards found to be medically unfit for active service, and after returning to England was discharged in May 1916, He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 4, Trinity Road, Rotherhithe, S.E.16.

BARNES, T., Private, 1st Royal Berkshire Regt. He was mobilised in August 1914, and immediately sent to France. He took part in the Battles of Mons, the Marne, the Aisne, La Bassee, Ypres, Givenchy, Neuve Chapelle, Festubert, Loos and the Somme. After being badly wounded on the Somme and invalided home, he was discharged, owing to his injuries in October 1916, and holds the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
4, Trinity Road, Rotherhithe, S.E.16.

BARNES, W. H., Private, 2nd East Surrey Regt. A Reservist, he was mobilised at the outbreak of hostilities, and was engaged on important duties at his depot, and did valuable work with his unit. He was unable to proceed overseas owing to medical reasons, and was discharged as unfit for further service in September 1917. He holds the Queen's and Ring's South African Medals.
16, Norway Street, Greenwich, S.E.10.

BARNES, W. R., Stoker, R.N. He volunteered in September 1915, and served for a time in H.M.S. "Antrim " in the North Sea. His ship was afterwards engaged in convoying food vessels from America to Europe until hostilities were ended. He was demobilised in 1919 after doing excellent work, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
18, Liardet Street, New Cross, S.E.14.

BARNETT, P., 2nd Lieut., 4th Middlesex Regiment. He was serving at the outbreak of war as Sergeant in the West Yorkshire Regiment, and was sent to France in November 1914. He was in action at Ypres, Neuve Chapelle, Hill 60, Festubert, Loos, Albert, Vermelles, and the Somme. He was mentioned in Despatches, and gazetted to a Commission for services in the Field in May 1916. He was unhappily killed in action at the Battle of the Somme on July 2nd 1916 and was entitled to the 1914 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARNEVELD, A. O., Private, Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment). He joined in February 1916, and later in the same year was sent to France, where he took part in numerous engagements. He was killed in action in the Ypres sector on November 25th, 1916, and was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARR, C., Private, Q.O. (Royal West Kent Regt.) He was serving at the outbreak of war, having enlisted in 1913, and was immediately sent to France. He took part in the Battles of Mons, Ypres and Neuve Chapelle. He was killed in action at Hill 60 on April 19th, 1915, and was entitled to the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

39, Frankham Street, Deptford, S.E.8.

BARR, C. E., Guardsman, Grenadier Guards. He volunteered in January 1915, and after his training was sent to France in the same year. After being in action at Givenchy, Hill 60, and Festubert, he fell fighting gallantly at the Battle of Loos in September 1915, and was entitled to the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BARRATT, C. T., Driver, R.A.S.C. (M.T.) He volunteered in September 1914, and was drafted overseas in January of the following year. He was engaged on important transport duties, and as a Despatch rider in the Somme, Arras, Ypres and Cambrai sectors. For some time he was employed in a Munition Factory in France, and did very valuable work. He was demobilised in April 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
27, Braddyll Street, Greenwich, S.E.10.

BARRATT, F. E., Pte., 8th Buffs (East Kent Regt.) He volunteered in September 1914, and in June of the following year was drafted to the Western Front, where he took part in numerous engagements, including those at Loos, Vimy Ridge, the Somme, Arras and Messines. He was wounded on three occasions, and was invalided home. In 1918 he was again sent to France, but returned home, and was discharged in November 1918, in consequence of his services. He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
204, Clifton Crescent, Peckham, S.E.15.

BARRATT, F. J., Gunner, R.F.A. Having volunteered in April 1915, he was sent to France later in the same year. He took part in the fighting at La Bassee, Festubert, Albert, the Somme, the Ancre, Arras, Beaumont-Hamel, Ypres, Passchendaele and Cambrai, and was wounded and gassed. He also served in 1917 in the engagement at Nieuport. He was demobilised in March 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
20, Honiton Street, Peckham, S.E.15.

BARRATT, H. J. T., Rifleman, K.R.R.C. Volunteering in October 1915, he landed in France in the following June, and fought in the Battle of the Somme. Discovered to be under military age he was sent home and discharged, but rejoining in 1917 he again proceeded to France in October of that year, and was in action in many parts of the line, and throughout the Retreat and Advance of 1918. He was demobilised in March 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
24, Commerell Street, Greenwich, S.E.10.

BARRETT, A. H., Rifleman, K.R.R.C., and Private, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. He joined in January 1916, and later in the same year was sent to Salonika. He took part in the Offensives on the Doiran and Struma fronts, and was in action at Monastir. He did excellent service in this fighting area until the close of hostilities, and after his return home was demobilised in November 1919, holding the General Service and Victory Medals.
35, Hanby Street, Peckham, S.E.15.

BARRETT, C., Pte., 22nd London Regt. (Queen's). He volunteered in April 1915, and after completing his training was transferred to the Worcestershire Regiment, and later to the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). He was engaged at various stations on important duties with his units, and rendered valuable services, but was not successful in obtaining his transfer overseas before the cessation of hostilities owing to his unfitness for active service. He was demobilised in March 1919.
70, Rotherhithe New Road, S.E.16.

BARRETT, G. S., Q.M.S., 1st Essex Regiment, and Labour Corps. Joining in February 1916, he was drafted to the Western Front in the following year, and was in action at Messines, Passchendaele and Cambrai. He was wounded and was in hospital for two months, but on his recovery returned to the front, and was transferred to the Labour Corps with which he was engaged chiefly on forestry work until the close of his service. He was demobilised in September 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
52, Blockhouse Street, Peckham, S.E.15.

BARRETT, H. H., Telegraphist, R.N. He joined the Royal Navy in April 1915, at the age of fifteen and a half, and in December 1917 was posted to H.M.S. "Vindictive" for patrol duties in the North Sea. In the following year he proceeded to Russia and did valuable work on a motor coastal boat, patrolling the White Sea. He was demobilised in April 1920, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
27, Ring's Road, Peckham, S.E.15.

BARRETT, J., Rifleman, 5th London Regt. (London Rifle Brigade). After having joined in April 1916, he was sent to France in August of the same year. He took part in numerous engagements, and was severely wounded on the Somme in October 1916. He was invalided home, and after a long period in hospital at Brighton was discharged as medically unfit for further service in November 1917. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
