BEENY, W. E. A., Private, 20th London Regiment. He volunteered in May 1915, and in the following year proceeded to France, where he did much valuable work for about a year and was then drafted to Salonika. Whilst in this theatre of war he was frequently in action on the Doiran front. Later he returned to the Western Front and took part in numerous engagements during the Advance. He gave his life for the freedom of England at Saulnes on October 20th, 1918, and was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals.
"He died the noblest death a man may die, Fighting for God and right and liberty."

BEESLEY, H. C., Pte., King's Shropshire Light Infantry. He volunteered in 1915, and proceeded to France in the following year. He took part in the fighting at Vimy Ridge, the Somme, Beaumont-Hamel, Armentieres Messines and Cambrai, and was wounded. He also served in the Retreat and Advance of 1918, and after the Armistice proceeded with the Army of Occupation to Germany. He was demobilised in September 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

BEESON, S., Gunner, R.F.A., and R.H.A. He volunteered in October 1914, and early in the following year was drafted to the Western Front, where he took part in the Battles of Neuve Chapelle, Hill 60, Ypres, Festubert, Loos, Albert, Arras, Vimy Ridge, Bullecourt, Ypres, Passchendaele, Bapaume and Amiens and in other important engagements during the Retreat and Advance of 1918. He was wounded and gassed in action, and after the cessation of hostilities, had a course at a riding school with the R.H.A. He was demobilised in October 1920, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BEETHOLME, C., Air Mech., R.A.F. (late R.N.A.S.) He joined in October 1916, and after a period of service at the Crystal Palace, was sent to Eastchurch. There he was employed as an armourer making cases for aerial bombs, and owing to the important nature of his work, was not allowed to proceed overseas. He rendered excellent service until he was demobilised in February 1919.

BEEZER, W. J., Pte., Q.O. (R. West Kent Regt.) He volunteered in August 1914, and in July of the following year was drafted to France, where he took part in the heavy fighting at Ypres, the Somme, Arras, Passchendaele, Trones Wood, Vimy Ridge and Ploegsteert Wood. In 1917 he was mentioned in Despatches for his gallantry at Zillebeke, where he remained alone for five days guarding important stores, and possesses a certificate of commendation for this deed from Sir Douglas Haig. He also holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals, and was demobilised in January 1919.

BEGBIE W. D. A., Private, 5th Royal Fusiliers. He volunteered in January 1916, and on completion of his training was engaged on important coast defence duties at Dover. He rendered valuable services with his unit, but was unsuccessful in obtaining his transfer overseas, and was demobilised in December 1918.

BEHR, L. G., Gunner, R.F.A. Volunteering in January 1915, he proceeded to France later in the same year and played a prominent part in the Battles of Neuve Chapelle, St. Eloi and Ypres. In 1917 he was transferred to Salonika, where he was in action on the Struma, Vardar and Doiran fronts. He was demobilised on his return to England in March 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BELAND, A. W., A.B., Royal Navy. He joined in May 1918, having previously served for two years with the Mercantile Marine, during which time he was engaged on food transports running between France and England. After being posted to H.M.S. "Concord" he was sent to Russia, and in 192o was still serving with the Mediterranean Fleet. lie holds the General Service, Victory, and the Mer-cantile Marine War Medals.

BELAND, G. W., Leading Aircraftsman, R.A.F. He volunteered in August 1914, in the 5th (Royal Irish) Lancers, and was engaged on important duties in Ireland. He was unsuccessful in obtaining his transfer overseas, but nevertheless, rendered valuable services until his demobilisation in August 1919. A month later, however, he re-enlisted in the R.A.F. and was sent to Egypt, where he was still stationed in 1920.

BELCHER, A., Pte., King's Shropshire Light Infantry. He was mobilised in August 1914, and was immediately drafted to France, where he took part in the Retreat from Mons, and in the Battles of Neuve Chapelle, Hill 60, Ypres and Loos. In 1915 he was sent to Salonika and did good service in many important operations there. He contracted malaria while in the East, but after his recovery continued his service until the cessation of hostilities. He returned to England, and was demobilised in 1919, and holds the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BELCHER, F., Pte., Oxfordshire and Bucks. L.I. He volunteered in August 1914, and was soon afterwards drafted to France, where he took part in the engagements at La Bassee, Neuve Chapelle, Hill 60, Vimy Ridge, the Somme, Bullecourt, and Cambrai. He also served in the Retreat and Advance of 1918, and demobilised in February of the following year, holds the 1914 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
4, Gillian Street, Lewisham, S.E.13.

BELCHER, L. P., Private, R.A.S.C. (M.T.) He volunteered in April 1915, and was speedily drafted to the Western Front, where he rendered valuable services as all ambulance driver. He saw heavy fighting in the Ypres, Festubert, Albert, Ploegsteert, Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele and Cambrai sectors, but in December 1917 was invalided home suffering from shell-shock. After hospital treatment in Wales he was discharged as medically unfit in September 1918, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BELDHAM, T., Private, M.G.C. He volunteered at the outbreak of hostilities and later in 1914 was drafted to the Western Front, where he played an important part in the Battles of La Bassee, Ypres, Neuve Chapelle and the Somme and in heavy fighting during the Retreat and Advance of 1918. Returning to England in March 1919 he was then demobilised, and holds the 1914 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
8, Rolt Street, Deptford, S.E.8.

BELHAM, W. J.,Rflmn., 8th London Rgt. (P.O. Rifles). He joined in May 1917, and five months later was drafted to the Western Front, where he took part in much severe fighting on the Somme and in other important sectors. He also rendered valuable services whilst attached to a prisoner of war company. He was demobilised in March 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

BELITHER, A., Air Mechanic, R.A.F. He joined on attaining military age in September I917, and in October of the same year was drafted to the Western Front. He served for a considerable time with the Aircraft Defence at Dunkirk and did valuable work. In March 1919 he returned home, and was demobilised, holding the General Service and Victory Medals.

BELITHER, H. J., Pte., The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment). He joined in June 1916, and on completion of his training in September was drafted to the Western Front, where he took part in heavy fighting on the Ancre. He laid down his life for King and Country on November 18th, 1916, and was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals.

BELITHER, R. (M.M.), Gdsmn., 3rd Grenadier Gds. Volunteering in August 1914, he was drafted in the following year to the Western Front and fought with the Guards Division in many battles, including those of Loos, Vimy Ridge, Messines, Ypres, the Somme and Cambrai. He was awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous bravery during a bombing expedition in July 1916. After the cessation of hostilities he served in Germany with the Army of Occupation until March 1919, when he was demobilised. He also holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BELL, A. E., Private, 1/20th London Regt. (T.F.) He joined in June 1917, and in the following November was drafted to France. During his service on the Western Front he took part in heavy fighting at Cambrai, Hill 60, and Arras, and in the Retreat and Advance of 1918. He was demobilised ou his return to England in February 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

BELL, F., Air Mechanic, R.A.F. He joined in 1917, and on completion of a period of training was engaged on important duties at various aerodromes in England. He did consistently good work during his service, but was unsuccessful in obtaining his transfer overseas, and was demobilised in 1919.
