BIFFIN, W. E., Private, 4th Norfolk Regiment. Joining in April 1917, he was sent to Egypt in the following year, and was in action in many engagements in Palestine, and was wounded. On his recovery, rejoining his unit, he fought in the third Battle of Gaza, the operations resulting in the capture of Jerusalem, and throughout the final British advance into Syria. Returning home he was demobilised in October 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

BIGGERSTAFF, H., Private, 3rd East Surrey Regt. Volunteering in September 1914, he landed in France in the following March and whilst engaged in heavy fighting during the second Battle of Ypres, was severely wounded. Returning home he received hospital treatment, and discharged from hospital, served at various stations on important duties until demobilised in June 1919. He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BIGINTON, H. E., Private, R.A.S.C. He volunteered in October 1914, and in the same year crossed to the Western Front. Stationed at No. 4 Base, Boulogne, he was engaged in loading and unloading boats and in forwarding ammunition and supplies to the advanced areas, and did excellent work throughout. Sent home owing to illness in August 1919, he was under treatment in Sheffield, and a month later was invalided out of the Service. He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BIGINTON, J., Private, R.A.S.C. Volunteering in October 1914, he embarked for France in the same year, and was engaged in the transport of ammunition and food supplies to the front lines. He did excellent work in many engagements, including those of the German Offensive and subsequent Allied Advance of 1918. Returning to England on the conclusion of hostilities, he was demobilised in March 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
3, Frankham Street, Deptford, S.E.8.

BIGINTON, J. H., L/Corporal, 5th Rifle Brigade. A Reservist, he was mobilised in August 1914, and three months later proceeded overseas. Serving with his Battalion in various parts of the Line in France and Flanders he was in action in several battles, and wounded at Armentieres, was sent to hospital at home. Returning to the Western Front on recovery, he was wounded for the second time in the Ypres salient and invalided to England for treatment. He was discharged as medically unfit in June 1916, and holds the 1914 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
36, Hyde Street, Deptford, S.E.8.

BIGGS, A., Corporal, R.E. He volunteered in January 1916, and in the following May was drafted overseas. Serving on the Western Front, he was engaged in the construction of light railways in the forward areas, work for which he was specially qualified, having been a plate-layer before enlistment. He rendered valuable services in various sectors, including those of the Somme, Arras, Ypres, Bullecourt and Cambrai, and for his consistent good work was recommended for the Military Medal. He was demobilised in February 1919, and holds the General Service and Victory Medals.

BIGGS,W. H., Pte., 22nd London Regt.(The Queen's). Volunteering in May 1915, he crossed to France in the same year and was in action in several engagements until wounded in the Battle of the Somme in October 1916. On recovery he proceeded to Egypt, and taking part in the Advance through Palestine fought in operations resulting in the fall of Jerusalem. Returning to England on the conclusion of hostilities he was demobilised in July 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BIGWOOD, E. G., Driver, R.F.A. Volunteering in April 1915, he landed in France in the following November, and fought in the Battles of St. Eloi, Vermelles, the Somme, Arras, Bullecourt, Ypres, Passchendaele and Cambrai. He was also in action in several engagements in the German Offensive and at Havrincourt, Epehy, Le Cateau, Valenciennes and other places in the subsequent Allied Advance of 1918. Demobilised in April 1919, he holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
37, Trinity Road, Rotherhithe, S.E.16.

BIGWOOD, H., Driver, R.F.A. He volunteered in April 1915, and in the following December was drafted overseas. Serving with his Battery in various sectors of the Western Front, he took part in the Battles of Bethune, the Somme, High Wood, Givenchy, Hebuterne, Arras, Nieuport, Ypres and Passchendaele. He was also in action in the Retreat and Advance, and owing to illness was sent home in October 1918. Returning to France a month later he served there for some time after the Armistice was signed. He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
29, Trinity Road, Rotherhithe, S.E.16.

BIGWOOD, J., Engine Room Artificer, Merchant Service. He joined the Merchant Service in January 1917, and was later posted to H.M.S. "Prestol" an oil-tanker. Whilst hostilities were in progress this vessel was engaged in carrying oil to the Grand Fleet in the North Sea, and to the Squadron operating in Russian waters, and he did excellent work, he was demobilised in April 1919, and holds the General Service and Mercantile Marine War Medals.

BILBY, F., Private, 1st Devonshire Regt. Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). Enlisting in October 1913, he was mobilised when war broke out, and sent to France shortly afterwards, fought in the Retreat from Mons and the Battles of the Marne, the Aisne, La Bassee, Ypres and Neuve Chapelle. Whilst in action in the Ypres salient he was severely wounded, his injuries resulting in the loss of his right eye, and sent home for treatment was eventually discharged as physically unfit for further service in July 1915. he holds the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.

BILDING, H., L/Corporal, 2nd Rifle Brigade. Volunteering in September 1914, he was sent to France in July of the following year. he took part in the fighting on the Somme and at Arras, Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele, Amiens and Armentieres, and was afterwards transferred to the Labour Corps with which he served till February 1919, when he was demobilised He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
108, Roan Street, Greenwich, S.E.10.

BINDOFF, E. J. J., Staff Sergt., R.A.M.C. Joining in April 1917, he was drafted in the following August to Salonika, where he served on the Doiran and Vardar fronts. He did good work whilst employed on various duties of an important nature, and after the Armistice served in Constantinople with the Army of Occupation. Demobilised on his return home in September 1920, he holds the General Service and Victory Medals.
150, Landells Road, East Dulwich, S.E.22.

BING, G. F., Gunner, R.F.A. Mobilised from the Army Reserve on the outbreak of hostilities, he embarked for the Weston Front soon afterwards, and fought with his Battery in the Retreat from Mons. He was also in action in the Battles of Ypres, the Somme and Arras, where he was wounded in 1917. Evacuated to England for treatment he was in hospital for several months, and was invalided out of the Army in September 1918. He holds the Mons Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
38, Drake Buildings, New King Street, Deptford, S.E.8.

BING, N. (Mrs.), Special War Worker. From November 1917 until the Armistice this lady served at Woolwich Dockyard. She was principally engaged in the manufacture of officers' belts, and carried out her duties in an entirely satisfactory manner.
76, Earlswood Street, Greenwich, S.E.10.

BING, N. E. L. (Miss), Special War Worker. This lady was engaged on important clerical duties at the Army Pay Corps Depot, Blackheath, from January 1918 until the conclusion of hostilities. During this period she rendered most valuable services, and her good work was greatly appreciated.
76, Earslwood Street, Greenwich, S.E.10.

BING, W. H., Private, R.A.M.C. He joined in April 1917, and early in the following year proceeded to France, where he was engaged on important duties with the Field Ambulance. He was wounded and gassed in an engagement, and sent home for treatment, was in Lewisham Hospital for some time, and was demobilised in December 1919. He had previously served in the Merchant Service for several years, and took part in operations in the Dardanelles, and in September 1916 returned home and was discharged. He holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals, in addition to the Mercantile Marine War Medal.
41, Maynard Road, Rotherhithe, S.E.16.

BINNING, C. C., Private, R.A.S.C., and Loyal North Lancashire Regiment. He volunteered in October 1914, and in July of the following year was drafted to the Western Front, where be fought in the Battles of Arras, Vimy Ridge and Bullecourt, and was gassed in action at Cambrai. On recovery he served in the Retreat and Advance until the cessation of hostilities. Returning to England he was demobilised in February 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals.
