He joined in October 1916, and underwent a period of training prior to his being drafted overseas. Whilst on the Western Front he took part in the Battles of Arras, Ypres, Passchendaele, Cambrai and the Somme, and was badly wounded near La Bassee in October 1918. As a result, he was invalided home and was finally discharged in September 1920, after being under treatment for nearly two years. He joined in March 1918, and underwent a period of training before being sent to Germany with the Army of Occupation. BUTTON, J., 1st Class Stoker, R.N. He joined in December 1916, and shortly afterwards proceeded to sea on board H.M.T.B.D. "Lidiard" He served with the Grand Fleet on important patrol duties and also took part in the raid on Zeebrugge. He volunteered in April 1915, and in the same year proceeded to France, where he served in much of the heavy fighting. He was in action at Loos, St. Quentin, Vimy Ridge, Arras, Albert, Amiens, Bapaume, and many other engagements, including the Retreat and Advance of 1918, and was wounded. He joined in July 1918, and after his training was engaged on building the sea wall at Southampton. He rendered valuable services, but was not successful in obtaining his transfer overseas before the cessation of hostilities. Having previously served many years in the Army, he joined the Royal Defence Corps in December 1914, although over-age. He was then engaged on important guard duties at the various railway stations and docks in and around London, and did consistently good work until his demobilisation in January 1919. 83, Cranham Road, Rotherhithe, S.E.16. BUTZBACK, A. S., Rifleman, 13th Rifle Brigade. He was in the Army when wax broke out in August 1914, and was retained at home on various important duties for some time. In 1917, however, he was drafted to France, and was in action during heavy fighting at Monchy, but was badly wounded in action and taken prisoner. He unfortunately died of his wounds whilst in captivity in Germany on June 5th, 1917, and was entitled to the General Service and Victory Medals. He joined in October 1916, and in the following February proceeded to the Western Front. There he took part in several engagements, including those at Ypres, where he was wounded in action in September 1917. In consequence he was invalided home, but on his recovery, returned to France, and served in the Retreat and Advance of 1918. After the Armistice, he was stationed in Germany with the Army of Occupation until his demobilisation in May 1919. He volunteered in July 1915, and after undergoing a period of training, was retained on duties of a highly technical nature at various stations. Owing to ill-health he was not successful in obtaining his transfer to a theatre of war, but nevertheless, rendered valuable services with his Squadron until February 1919, when he was demobilised. 113, Silwood Street, Rotherhithe, S.E.16. BYGRAVE, G. A., Private, M.G.C. Joining in November 1916, he was drafted to the Western Front on completing three months' training, and there saw severe fighting in various sectors. After taking part in the Battles of Arras, Ypres, and the Somme, and other important engagements, he was wounded and taken prisoner at Cambrai in 1918, and held in captivity until after the cessation of hostilities. He volunteered in March 1915, and later in that year was drafted to the Western Front, where he saw severe fighting in various sectors. He was unfortunately reported missing, presumed to have been killed in action in September 1916, during the Somme Offensive. Mobilised on the outbreak of war he served throughout the period of hostilities with the Submarine Section, on important patrol duties in the North Sea. BYRNE, J., Pte., Bedfordshire Regt.,and Labour Corps. Volunteering in 1915, he completed his training and served at various depots on important duties with his unit. He Was unsuccessful in obtaining his transfer overseas prior to the cessation of hostilities, but rendered excellent services until demobilised in 1919. 6, Marlton Street, Greenwich, S.E.10. BYRNE, R., Gunner, R.F.A. Volunteering in August 1914, he was drafted to France in March of the following year, and there saw heavy fighting in various sectors of the Front. After taking part in the Battles of Neuve Chapelle and Hill 60, he was wounded in action in June 1916, and invalided home, but on his recovery in February 1917, returned to the Western Front, where he was again in action at Cambrai, and on the Somme. Demobilised in May 1919, he holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 46, Lilford Road, Camberwell, S.E.5. BYRON, W., Stoker, Petty Officer, R.N. He was called up from the Reserve in August 1914, and was posted to H.M.S. "Juno," on board which vessel he was engaged on patrol duties in many waters. He served in the Irish Sea, Atlantic Ocean, and Mesopotamian waters, until 1917, and was then transferred to a Mystery Ship for duty in the Mediterranean Sea. He was demobilised in August 1919, and holds the 1914-15 Star, and the General Service and Victory Medals. 17, Trim Street, New Cross, S.E.14. CABELL, W. S., Corporal, 12th Bedfordshire Regt. He joined in October 1916, and after his training was engaged at various stations in Ireland and Scotland on important duties with his unit. He rendered valuable services, but was not successful in obtaining his transfer overseas before the cessation of hostilities. He was demobilised in June 1919. 2, Lenthrop Road, East Greenwich, S.E. 10. CADDICK, J.,L/Cpl., 11th City of London Volunteers. Joining in September 1916 he rendered valuable services with his Corps, being engaged on important duties on the London defences. Demobilised in October 1919, he holds a certificate awarded for good service. 137, Keeton's Road, Rotherhithe, S.E.16. CADMAN, F. T., Driver, R.A.S.C. (M.T.) Volunteering in September 1915, he was drafted to the Western Front on completing a period of training in December of that year, and was there engaged in conveying ammunition to the forward areas. He took an active part in the Battles of the Somme, Vimy Ridge, Ypres, and Cambrai, and many other important engagements, and on his return home in March 1919, was demobilised.
