I Wore A Tunic

Sung To The Tune “I Wore A Tulip”

I wore a tunic,
An old khaki tunic,
While you wore your civvie clothes,
We fought and bled at Loos
While you were on the booze,
The booze no one here knows.
You were with the wenches
While we were in the trenches
Facing the German foe.
Oh, you were a-slacking
While we were attacking
The Boche up the Menin Road.

This was a song sung by Kitchener’s Army about the conscripts who came out in 1917. After Loos and The Somme, Kitchener’s Army were by 1917, considered hardened veterans.
