Charles Henry William Stanford was born on the 17th May 1880. He lived at 75, Smallwood Road, Tooting with his wife Mary and two sons and three daughters. He served as a private in the 13th East Surrey Regiment (11128) and survived the war. He died in 1952.

Christopher Charles Stanford as the eldest son of Charles and Mary Stanford. He was born on the 29th April 1902. He married Evelyn Mary Irene Thickens in 1928 and worked as a foreman in a warehouse. He died in 1975.

A First World War silk postcard dated 11th March 1917 to Violet D Powell, 32 Cecil Road, West Croydon, Surrey.

Message On Postcard

For the 16th March 1917.

My Dear Violet this is for your birthday wich I hop will find you quite well & mind & be a good little girl. From your loving Dadey in France 11.3.17 xxxxx

Henry James Powell lived at 32 Cecil Road West Croydon with his wife Eliza and three daughters, Laura Violet Dora, Miriam Ivy and Doris Mabel. An army reservist, he attested and went to France with the British Expeditionary Force on the 5th Oct 1914, age 39. He served as a Driver in the Royal Field Artillery reaching the rank of corporal. Tragically his daughter Miriam died on the 6th Dec 1914 while he was in France. Miriam had been born with a cleft palate and died of measles aged only 3 years. Henry was discharged from the army on the 29th Jan 1918 as no longer physically fit for military service due to sickness. He died in Croydon in 1938.

Violet Dora Powell was born on the 16th March 1909 in Wandsworth. and sadly died in Croydon, in 1923 aged just 14.
