Grenadier Guards, s. of John Stuart, of 16, Bridge Street, Wigan, Collier, by his wife, Ellen; b. Wigan, co. Lancs., 19 Dec. 1883; educ. St. Joseph&#8217;s School, Wigan, and afterwards worked as a Miner at the Moss Hall Collieries. After the outbreak of war he enlisted in the 3rd Battn.
