(60th Foot) The King&#8217;s Royal Rifle Corps, 2nd s. of Charles Barrand, of 134, Woodhouse Lane, Leeds, Furnisher and Cabinet Maker, by his wife, Alice, dau. of J. S. Bromley; b. Leeds educ. Leeds Modern School, and Henderson Bunnen Institute; was an Adjutant in the Leeds Boys&#8217; Brigade; on the outbreak of war enlisted in the R.A.M.C. 14 Aug. 1914; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from the following Oct.; returned to England in Jan. 1916, and after a period of training was gazetted 2nd Lieut. King&#8217;s Royal Rifle Corps 7 July following; and promoted Lieut. 7 Jan. 1918; went back to France in Aug. 1916; was wounded at Miramont in Feb. 1917; on recovery re-joined his unit in France, and was killed in action south-east of Arras 14 Aug. 1918. Buried at St. Amand, near Arras.
