London; educ. the Grammar School, Kingsland, N.; enlisted in the Essex Regt. 25 June, 1916; subsequently transferred to the Royal Scots; served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders, and was killed in action 19 April, 1918. Buried in the Military Cemetery at Bien Villers, south-east of Doullens. The Chaplain wrote: &#8220;The officers told me that they had lost one of the brightest of men. He was loved by all.&#8221; Private Broadway had eleven brothers, all of whom saw active service.
