(23rd Foot) The Royal Welsh Fusiliers, only s. of C. Ackland-Allen, of St. Hilary Manor, Cowbridge; b. 17 Sept. 1893; educ. Wellington College, and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst; was gazetted 2nd Lieut. ROYAL WELSH FUSILIERS, who was killed in action on the 23rd October, 1914, was only son the of C. Ackland-Allen, of St. Hilary Manor, Cowbridge, South Wales. Lieutenant Ackland-Allen was educated at Wellington College, where he was in the Beresford from 1907-1910, proceeding to the R.M.C., Sandhurst, in 1912. He received his commission in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in September, 1913; the battalion went to Malta in January, 1914, returned to England in September, and went out with the VIIth Division on the 4th October.
